Practical skills for a hands-on life.
Welcome to the mountain homestead. Let’s make the complicated stuff simple.

Hello, and welcome to Nurtured Herds!

Our family lives on a cattle ranch in the mountains. My husband works in agriculture full-time, and I left the workforce entirely to raise our youngest son and homeschool our two teenage boys. I bring a lifelong passion for horses, animal care, and daily ranch life to everything I do; whether that’s keeping a watchful eye on our horses, goats, dogs, and cats, or teachable moments with the kiddos.

Our day-to-day is a busy mix of homeschooling lessons, baking and cooking, caring for our animals and gardens, projects around our property, and rolling-with-the-punches of everyday life.

What We Share on the Blog

  • Our Herds: Stories and personal routines from our years caring for horses, goats, dogs, and cats.

  • Home Gardening: How we work with nature in our own natural, spray-free gardens to maximize our harvest and provide wholesome food for our family.

  • Replacing Store-Bought: My personal passion for crafting homemade meals, snacks, and beverages right in our kitchen.

  • Practical Homeschooling: Our approach to real-world education that blends learning with ranch life. (While we follow our own state’s guidelines, always be sure to check your local requirements.)

  • DIY Projects: We use as many on-hand materials to build what we need, things like our goats’ shelter, our garden beds, etc. Feel free to use our DIY projects as inspiration to create your own designs!

Whether you’re here to learn, live vicariously, or laugh with us when things get chaotic, we’re happy to have you.
